TDP mediation fails, Vamsi to join YSRCP shortly

The mediation efforts of the Telugu Desam Party failed in the last three days to retain Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan in the party. It is for sure now that the MLA would join the ruling YSR Congress sometime this week.

TDP MP from Vijayawada, Kesineni Srinivas and former MP from Machilipatnam, Konakalla Narayana Rao, held talks with Vamsi for nearly three hours in the last three days to convince him to continue in the party. Vamsi seems to have decided to quit the party and join the ruling party. In fact, Vamsi’s joining the YSR Congress was much delayed. He was expected to join the party when Jaganmohan Reddy’s padayatra reached the Vijayawada city. Though he denied then, he was expected to join the party before the 2019 general elections.

Having three hours long discussion with Vamsi, the Vijayawada MP said that the MLA should fight and not give up the fight. He said he wanted the MLA to stay in the TDP and fight against the ruling party’s excesses. He wanted the rank and file too to be firm at this hour of crisis. But, there seems no takers for such statements.

Chandrababu Naidu was in the city for three days meeting the party leaders and taking feedback from them on various issues, including the party’s defeat and the exit of several senior leaders like Vamsi. The Gannavaram MLAs issue too was discussed but Naidu did not take the initiative to meet the sulking MLA. He just left it to the Vijayawada MP and Machilipatnam former MP to resolve the issue, which they could not.

There are several leaders, particularly those who got elected to the Assembly and who want to quit the TDP to join the ruling party. The MLAs have more things to be done by the government than the opposition. It is to be seen what these MLAs would do once Vamsi’s episode settles down.
