TDP MLC blames Lokesh

Nara Lokesh

Telugu Desam Party is suffering major setbacks these days with leaders quitting the party one after the other. Several of the senior leaders, who have been with the party for years together, are quitting the party. Some have already joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, while others are still waiting.

The latest is the party MLC Annam Satish Prabhakar, who lost in the Assembly elections from Bapatla constituency. He had sent his resignation to the primary membership of the party and also to the membership of the Legislative Council. He said having lost the Assembly election, it was not right on his part to continue as MLC indicating that party general secretary Nara Lokesh should also follow suit as he also lost the Assembly election from Mangalagiri.

Quite interestingly, Prabhakar had found fault with Lokesh for his interference in the party affairs. He said that Chandrababu Naidu’s intervention had slowly come down while Lokesh intervention is increasing. Lokesh had failed to be a worthy leader, he said and held him responsible for the party’s debacle. The party’s image is going down with every action of Lokesh, the party leader said.

No leader, who had left the party after the 2019 elections had pointed an accusing finger at Lokesh. In fact, majority of the leaders are uncomfortable with Lokesh. Chandrababu Naidu had been promoting Lokesh in the party and had even made him a Minister by giving him the MLC post. Several of the MLCs, who have contested the MLA elections, have resigned including Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy and P Narayana. The others, who have won the election like Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy and Payyavula Keshav have quit the MLC after their victory. But, Lokesh continues to be MLC despite his defeat and he is seen as the target for many of the disgruntled leaders.

Majority of the TDP leaders believe that Lokesh is not a potential and capable leader to lead the party. Several of them are not ready to accept him as their leader, next to Chandrababu Naidu. They see no future for them and the party if Lokesh is made to take over the mantle from Chandrababu Naidu. It is to be seen how many of them would leave the party in the days to come shifting the blame on Lokesh.
