Visakha Dairy goes into YSRCP hands

The popular Visakha Dairy, the milk producers’ cooperative society had now gone into the ruling YSR Congress. The dairy, which had been a strong base for the Telugu Desam Party for all these years, is now in the YSR Congress, with its chairman Adaari Anand Kumar along with the directors resigned to the TDP and joined the YSR Congress in the presence of chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. This was a big blow for the TDP in the north coastal districts, as Anand contested on the TDP ticket to Anakapalli Lok Sabha constituency.

There were more than a dozen top leaders from the TDP, who have been with the TDP for decades at the grassroots have now left the party. Visakha dairy had been one of the successful dairies in the State with the farmers growing strong year after the year. Besides Visakha Dairy, two other dairies in the cooperative sector were strong in the State. Vijaya Dairy in Krishna district and Sangam Dairy in Guntur are the strong holds of the TDP. The Chittoor dairy, which was strong in 1990s was slowly diluted by the TDP for the success of the Heritage Dairy, which was owned by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. However, other two dairies, Vijaya and Sangam, are still strong.

Chandrababu Naidu tried to take over the Sangam Dairy which is now headed by Dhulipala Narendra Kumar of the TDP, who refused it to be given to the TDP chief. Chandrababu Naidu also wanted to dilute this dairy to get entry for the Heritage in Guntur district. However, Dhulipala did not allow this to happen and it is for this reason, Chandrababu Naidu denied Cabinet berth for Narendra, despite he being the senior most leader in the party.

The TDP chief also did his bit of politics to dilute the Vijaya Dairy of Krishna district. However, he could not succeed as Mandava Janakiramaiah, the milk man of Krishna district, was strong and fought a battle with Chandrababu Naidu to save the dairy. However, after his retirement, Chandrababu Naidu made his close loyalist, Chalasani Anjaneyulu as the Vijaya Dairy chairman.

These two dairies in the cooperative sector are now the strong bases for the TDP and it is to be seen whether these two dairies would also follow the Visakha Dairy or stay with the TDP.
