Why Chandrababu is against early polls?

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is not ready for early polls. Since he has severed the ties with BJP, even if the central government goes for early polls, Chandrababu wants Andhra Pradesh elections to be held as scheduled. There may be various reasons for this. While one reason is that in the past, early elections did not help him, the other reason is said to be his view that development works will come to a halt. That’s why Chandrababu wants elections in AP to be held as scheduled.

Actually Andhra Pradesh state assembly’s term is till June 18 next year. If early elections are to be held, they have to be conducted in November-December this year. That means, the government will lose almost nine months. This is the reason Chandrababu is not said to be in favour of early polls. Chandrababu still remembers that in 2004 he lost after going for early elections. It is learnt that he has put a full stop to the idea of early elections. He has given indications in this regard to TDP leaders.

On the other side, the construction of Polavaram project and Amaravati are likely to get some shape. Chandrababu hopes that a building will be ready in Amaravati in six months. Opposition has been criticizing the government for failing to construct even one permanent building in Amaravati in last four years. In order to counter the opposition, Chandrababu has directed the officials to speed up the works. Babu feels that if elections are held seven months early, these efforts may not bear fruit. Polavaram construction is also moving at slow pace. Babu believes that in seven months it will also get into some shape.

Chandrababu feels that these seven months are required to prepare party cadre for the electoral battle and to expedite development works in constituencies. Clarity is also expected soon on unemployment allowance. Babu wants youth to be paid the allowance so that they get the satisfaction. This will help the TDP to get the youth’s votes. If elections are advanced, this may not be possible. That’s why Chandrababu is reluctant to go for early polls. If the BJP government at the Centre goes for early elections, the chances of Chandrababu agreeing to it appear remote.
