Why people are indifferent to Amaravati?

People in Andhra Pradesh are totally indifferent to capital Amaravati issue. When Chandrababu government had announced Amaravati as the state capital, people in other regions had asked what about us. Today there is no response. YSR Congress Party government has started preparing for development of not just Amaravati but three capitals for balanced development of all three regions. An intense debate is on over the issue in both the Telugu states but nobody is becoming emotional. People appear to be of the view that it does not matter to them where the capitals come up as there will neither suffer any loss nor gain anything.

Whatever they had to lose they already lost at the time of bifurcation. Due to inefficiency of all political parties in AP, precious Hyderabad was lost. During the term of the previous government several protests were held but the Centre did not relent.

Congress or BJP, while in power, did what they wanted but did not take the opinion of people of both the states. With public money, Chandrababu hit the streets and undertook agitation but this was of no help. Do we need to suffer more losses by shutting down educational institutions and businesses? According to analysts, this opinion of the people is the reason for their indifference to the current situation.

Before bifurcation, there was a massive agitation for samaikhya Andhra. People then fought for keeping AP united. After bifurcation, they demanded at least Hyderabad be declared joint capital. Those who did not heed the voice of MPs in Parliament are no longer in power. Bifurcation was done in a haphazard manner. All parties became partners in the bifurcation sin. Everyone in Seemandhra personally suffered massive loss. Students suffered as no classes were conducted while employees and businessmen were affected by the bandh.

In view of all this, Amaravati agitation is confined to 29 villages. Opposition parties have united to launch a joint attack on the government to intensify the protest but people of even Krishna and Guntur are ignoring it. This is what worrying TDP. At the party level protest programmes are being organized across the state but the fact is that common man is not joining it. That’s why Jagan government is said to be going aggressive. If this trend continues, the opposition parties are sure to get a huge setback on this issue.
