In his first public meeting in Telangana State ahead of the general elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, targeted more on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He drew parallels between Narendra Modi and Chandrasekhar Rao and said that both are same in betraying the people. He further said that KCR’s proposed Federal Front in the national politics was a game plan to ensure the victory of Narendra Modi by splitting the anti-Modi votes from the Opposition parties.
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Hyderabad on Saturday after his election meeting in Karnataka. He attacked Narendra Modi on the Rafale fighter aircrafts deal in which he found fault with the government for increasing the price of each aircrafts and involving Anil Ambani in the deal. He questioned the experience of Anil Ambani’s Reliance in making or distributing fighter air crafts and alleged that Narendra Modi had done this favour to his friend Anil Ambani at the cost of the nation and its defence.
Besides promising some sops to the farmers and the general public if the Congress is voted to power, Rahul Gandhi blamed KCR for not speaking about the Rafale deal and other issues connected to the Central government. He said that KCR is afraid of Narendra Modi, who is using the Central agencies against his critics. The CBI, ED, IT and other agencies are being misused by the Modi government to silence the critics except the Congress, he said and alleged that KCR is silent because of the fear of these Central agencies.
While the Congress leaders from Telangana are in elated mood after the success of Rahul Gandhi’s meeting, there are some absentees for this meeting raising an eyebrow on the unity of the party in Telangana. The party had suffered to some extent with the exit of three sitting MLAs ahead of the March 12 MLC elections. It is said that there are some more MLAs ready to quit the party in the days to come.
Besides these defections, leaders like Revanth Reddy were absent at the Rahul Gandhi’s meeting giving space for rumour mills to suspect the defections. However, it is to be seen how the Congress will stand as the elections are fast approaching.
