Will Pawan suffer another setback?

“Your whistles and claps are not going to help me or our party. If you had seen this enthusiasm in the elections, we would have won.” This is what Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan told his party workers and fans at a meeting about a month ago. One can understand Pawan Kalyan’s agitation. Pawan Kalyan’s fans and Jana Sena workers still treat him as a film hero not as a politician or a party chief.

Still wherever Pawan Kalyan holds a meeting and whatever he says, more than his words, his gestures evoke whistles and claps.

This situation may be good for fans, youth and party workers but broadly seen this is not good for Jana Sena. Though Pawan Kalyan has been saying that he floated the party to question and despite party’s crushing defeat, he is standing up to protest and take part in the movement, the party is not getting strengthened at the grass-root level. Pawan Kalyan has been warning from every platform. He also set up mandal level committees in the districts.

He is giving priority to women in the name of ‘veera women’. It is significant to note that youth, who should have played a key role in the party, are unable to connect to the party. Meanwhile, elections to local bodies in the state are fast approaching. Notification for the elections are scheduled to be issued on 17th of this month. Pawan Kalyan has decided to move ahead with a clear strategy for the elections. He is telling the party leaders and workers that we will show our strength in the local body elections and we will regain the appeal lost in the general elections.

However, it is significant to note that the party has not yet announced an action plan in this regard. The party has taken a stand on three capitals but it lacks leaders at the local level to respond to this. In this context, it doesn’t look like that Pawan Kalyan’s dreams in the local body elections will come true. It is not in a position to contest local body elections in Telangana. There Jana Sena gave up even before the fight.

In Pawan Kalyan’s own state AP, Jana Sena is yet to have district committees. Those who contested the previous elections are being appointed as incharges of their constituencies. Except announcing their appointment, the party has not focused on district and mandal level committees. Will the party have leaders to issue B-forms not to talk about the candidates who can contest on the party ticket in the local body elections. All doubts are being expressed. If he can show some impact in these elections, then only there will be new lease of life for the party. Let us see what strategy Pawan Kalyan will adopt.
