Tamil Nadu politics is undergoing rapid changes. So far the national parties could not tackle the existing regional parties. It will not be an exaggeration to say that after Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi, there is no leader with a similar public image in the state. It is a fact that after the death of Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi, a political vacuum has created in Tamil Nadu. To cash in on this political vacuum, Rajinikanth has announced his entry into politics. He has not yet announced the political party. He, however, announced that his party will contest Assembly elections to be held in 2021.
It is a fact that in Tamil Nadu, Anna DMK and DMK are strong parties. Before 2016 elections, Tamil people had elected the two parties by rotation. However, in 2016 Jayalalitha won the public mandate for the second consecutive term. However, after Jayalalitha’s death the party is struggling due to lack of leadership. Since the party is in power, the leaders are somehow managing the affairs. DMK’s condition is also okay. The party is being led by Stalin, who is considered as a strong leader.
However, now Rajinikanth is going to launch his party. By launching the party’s membership programme, he has created a sensation in Tamil Nadu. Rajinikanth wants to slowly strengthen the party. He has lakhs of fans. This coupled with the goodwill he enjoys among the key personalities of film industry are likely to work to his advantage. However, Rajnikanth recently made an interesting comment. He wondered what is wrong in joining hands with Kamal Haasan. Rajnikanth pointed out that they both are long-time friends.
If Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan really come together, they will be showered with votes. This is the fear of DMK and Anna DMK. On the other hand, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have different mentalities. Kamal Haasan appears to be aggressive in nature while Rajinikanth has a soft nature. Kamal Haasan is a man with leaning towards Leftist ideology while Rajinikanth has spiritual thinking. Is it possible for the two to work together in politics? The debate on this has begun in Tamil Nadu. DMK and Anna DMK are confident that before contesting the elections, differences will crop up between the two. We have to wait and see if Rajni and Kalam will together rule Tamil Nadu or not.
