YSR Congress hits Naidu-Modi equally

Even as the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was holding a protest meet in Tirupati against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for betrayal, the Opposition YSR Congress held a day-long protest in Visakhapatnam. The YSR Congress, perhaps for the first time, had targeted the BJP and the TDP equally for denying the special category status and other benefits to the State.

The YSR Congress and its chief Jagan Mohan Reddy have been soft on BJP and Narendra Modi for all these days. In their run to target their immediate rival, Chandrababu Naidu, the YSR Congress leaders dedicated no time to expose or find fault with the BJP for the injustice. The soft approach towards the BJP had earned negative points to the YSR Congress and Jagan Mohan Reddy. In fact, his soft approach had given a greater opportunity for the TDP and Chandrababu Naidu to see a nexus between the BJP and the YSR Congress.

Political observers and the neutrals had several doubts over the political agenda of Jagan Mohan Reddy. People, cutting across the party lines, are upset and angry with the BJP. Those who saw a visionary in Narendra Modi in the 2014 elections too began to feel disappointed. The positive mood among the rich and middle classes is slowly vanishing in Andhra Pradesh. In this situation, Jagan’s soft corner towards Narendra Modi, for any reason, was up for criticism. The TDP had tried its best to take advantage of the situation by targeting the cases against Jagan Mohan Reddy.

But, at Visakhapatnam, the YSR Congress leaders blamed the BJP and TDP equally with more focus on the TDP. In fact, the TDP’s turnaround every time on the special category status is a strong point for criticism. But, the BJP and Narendra Modi’s reverse decision is also an issue to be targeted.

At least now, the YSR Congress had made its mind clear and its attack on the BJP holding the blame equally on the two ruling parties had come as an advantage to some extent. Though Jagan Mohan Reddy had to give a clear view on his relationship with the BJP, before he goes for the next elections, this small move is seen as an indication of his matured politics.

People are aware of the fact that the cases against him are part of the political vendetta. Though he is facing the trouble because of this vendetta, his stand on BJP is set to determine his future. If he keeps the BJP also at equal distance as he keeps the Congress, it would be better for him in terms of the political prospects. He is expected to keep that distance and fight the elections.
