Claim :
In the viral video, when a reporter asks TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu whether Jagan will come back as CM once again, he says 100%Fact :
Audio in the viral video has been manipulated. The question of the reporter was whether TDP would come back to power in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh registered 78.36% polling until midnight of May 13, 2024, in the fourth phase of the general elections for the 175 Assembly constituencies and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies. Several incidents of violence were registered in the state as supporters of YSRCP and TDP clashed in parts of Palnadu, NTR, Krishna, Tirupati, Guntur, Kurnool, Prakasam, and Anantapur districts.
Celebrities and political leaders stood in the queue lines and cast their votes, including top leaders like Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan, etc.
A video of Telugu Desam Party boss Chandrababu Naidu getting into a car is shared on all platforms of social media, in which we can hear the reporter asking ‘Will Jagan come back to power again?’ to which Naidu can be heard saying ‘100%’.
A similar claim circulating on WhatsApp shows an image which is a screenshot from the same video. This image is being shared with the implication that the TDP chief accepted that his party was going to lose and left for Hyderabad, after casting his vote. The image of Chandrababu is shared as a Way2news short news article.
The text along with the images goes as “గెలిచే పరిస్థితి లేదు: చంద్రబాబు వ్యాఖ్యలు:
When translated, it claims: “There is no winning situation: Chandrababu's comments:
AP: TDP leader Chandrababu made sensational comments that if we look at the polling at the field level, there is no situation for the alliance to win. People want a welfare regime. He said that things like schemes for all communities and civic services in villages have damaged the alliance. He said that the Land Titling Act has not made any impact on the people. Meanwhile, Chandrababu, who voted in Undavalli, moved to Hyderabad in a special flight.”
Fact check:
The claim that Chandrababu Naidu commented that the alliance is not going to win or Jagan party is coming to power is False. The leader made no such comments.
When we searched using the image of Chandrababu Naidu talking to the media representatives, while getting into the car, we found recent videos published online. In the video shared on the social media accounts of a few users on May 13, 2024, the reporter can be heard asking whether he thinks that TDP is coming to power, and the leader replied ‘100%’.
Taking a cue from the video, where the ANI mic can be seen, we searched for the videos of Chandrababu Naidu published by ANI after he voted. The caption on the video is “#WATCH | Guntur: After casting his vote, Former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu says, "It is our responsibility to cast our vote and demand a bright future. 100% (TDP will come to power in the state)" Voting for Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and the fourth phase of #LokSabhaElections2024 is taking place simultaneously today.” In this video, we can clearly hear the question of the reporter and the answer.
We also found another video published by ANI of the leader requesting the voters to vote for TDP. These videos were published by ANI on May 13, 2024 morning around 8.15 am, when the polling had just begun.
Upon further research, we found that the image shared using the way2news template is also a fake one and Naidu never made a statement that there is no winning situation for the TDP_Janasena-BjP alliance. Way2 News refuted the claim and declared that no such news was published by Way2news. Some miscreants are spreading misinformation using their logo on #WhatsApp, and creating the viral post. They confirmed that the news story has not been published by @way2_news.
Hence, the claim that Chandrababu Naidu commented that the alliance is not going to win or Jagan party is coming to power is False. The leader made no such comments.
