An image of the Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is shared on social media with the claim “Congress rule is Brahmin rule! Bjp rule is Brahmin rule! Choose alternative”.
In the viral image, we can see Rahul Gandhi showing off a sacred thread implying that he belongs to the Brahmin community. The posts imply that the Congress favours the Brahmin community, BJP favours the Brahmin community and people need to choose their leaders carefully.
Fact Check:
The claim is False. The image is a morphed one. Rahul Gandhi is showing off his torn Kurta and not a sacred thread worn by him.
When we performed a reverse image search using Google, we found that the image is from 2017when addressing a public meeting, Rahul Gandhi is seen flaunting a tear in his kurta while taunting Indian Prime Minister Modi for wearing expensive clothes.
Displaying a hole in the kurta that he was wearing, Rahul Gandhi told the audience at a public meeting in Rishikesh: “Mera kurta phata ho toh mujhe farak nahi padta, lekin Modi Ji ka kapda kabhi nahi phata hoga aur woh gareeb ki rajneeti karte hain (It doesn't matter to me if my kurta is torn, But Modiji's clothes must never have been torn and he is involved in politics of the poor)."
Here is the comparison of both images.
Therefore, the claim is False. Rahul Gandhi is not sporting sacred thread in the viral image, he is showing off his torn kurta in front of the audience.
