Fact Check: RSS survey report on Munugode bypoll is a hoax
In this connection, an image claiming to be a survey done by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is going viral on social media. The caption reads
The high-stakes campaign for the Munugode bypoll has come to an end. All major political parties in Telangana – TRS, BJP and Congress—are considering victory in the poll as a matter of prestige. The constituency is scheduled to go for election on November 3, 2022.
In this connection, an image claiming to be a survey done by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is going viral on social media. The caption reads, "RSS itself has declared in its survey that BJP is going to lose to TRS in Munugode by a margin of over 35,000 votes. According to the survey: TRS - 99,170 BJP - 62,630 Congress - 31,770."
The letter in Hindi is addressed to RSS Telangana secretary Kacham Ramesh. The subject of the letter is a report of the survey conducted for the Munugode bypoll in 2022. It says that the secret survey has been conducted from October 20 to October 30. The survey shows the count of votes each party is expected to get. According to the survey, TRS will get 99,170, BJP- 62,630, and Congress-31,770.
Fact check:
The claim that the image shows the results of a survey conducted by RSS is FALSE. RSS did not conduct any such surveys on Munugode bypoll.
RSS Telangana released a press statement refuting the claim. In the statement, RSS stated that a forged statement, entitled 'RSS Internal Survey Report', is being circulated on social media.
Released ostensibly in the context of the Munugode bypoll, this report is signed by an unknown person and is clearly released with a malafide intention of confusing and misleading people. We would like to state that no such survey has been conducted by the RSS and we condemn the mischievous act of publicizing this fake document.
RSS is a voluntary organization that has been working for the last 97 years with the primary aim of nation-building through individual character-building. RSS as an institution participates neither in politics nor does it conduct political surveys. As elections are a crucial and critical part of democracy, RSS encourages every Indian citizen to exercise their franchise.
Of late, attempts have been made to denigrate a cultural voluntary organization such as the RSS, by people who have been resorting to fake, baseless, and implausible news stories and comments for political gains. These kinds of actions do not befit the position of any individual or institution of responsibility. It is nothing but deriding and abusing democratic and social values.
We hereby request the Government and officials to identify the persons responsible for such fake documents and the news emanating out of them and take stringent, legal measures against them.
