On June 8, 2024 morning, Israeli forces bombed the Al-nuseirat refugee camp area in the Gaza strip. The deadly attacks reportedly killed at least 270 people and wounded 700 others, including dozens of women and children. According to the Israeli forces, this deadly raid was done to free the four hostages held there.
After the deadly attack, a video showing broken remains of an equipment is in circulation with the claim that it shows the remnants of a missile, allegedly fired by the Israeli army on the refugee camp in Gaza. The message claims that the missile has ‘Made in India’ stamp on it.
This triggered an argument about the involvement of India in these bombings. Several social media users can be seen speculating about India’s role in supplying arms to Israel, used in this attack killing hundreds of civilians. The caption shared along with the video is "Made in India" Reads the label on the remains of a missile dropped by Israeli warplanes at a UN shelter in Nuseirat refugee camp last night.
Fact Check:
The claim is False. The video does not show the remains of the missile used for the attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp.
When we searched the keyframes from the video, we found a post on X stating that we could see the logo of UL India (a medical equipment certification company. The remnant is of medical equipment donated to Gaza but not missiles.
Upon looking closely at the screenshots extracted from the viral video, we found that the debris had the logo UL, along with US on it.
On further research, we found that the UL stands for Underwriter Laboratories, which is a third party certification company. UL is a Certification Body under the Indian Certification for Medical Devices (ICMED) 13485 Scheme, a voluntary quality certification scheme for medical devices in India. UL Solutions offers a range of services for medical device manufacturers, including third-party regulatory approvals, product testing and certification, auditing, cybersecurity testing, and usability testing.
Here we can find more information on the process of certification of medical equipment by UL. Neither Indian nor Israeli authorities denied or confirmed the news that the missile was imported from India. We found no reports.
Hence, the video does not show missile remains in Gaza, the remains belong to the medical equipment certified by a company named UL which has bases in the USA and India. The claim is False.
