The article is from July 2013 and is not recent. The article states that the person seen in the image is Bhojpuri actor Irfan khan and his friend Sanjay Yadav, who was arrested on charges of credit cardA picture of two young men is being shared virally with the claim that the Mumbai police arrested a barber who has been doing barber jihad for many years. The man, who is a barber in Mumbai, has been taught to make an incision using a blade to spread AIDS to his Hindu customers.

The claim viral in Hindi language “*ब्रेकिंग न्यूज... मुंबई नाई जिहाद एक मुलले ने पुलिस के सामने कुबूल किया कि मस्जिदों में नाईजेहाद के लिए पैसा मिलता है । जिसमें हिंदुओं को एड्स के ब्लेड से हल्का सा चीरा लगाने के लिए सिखाया जाता है.। सभी नजदीकी लोगों को बताना है कि किसी हिंदू नाई से ही सेव व कटिंग कराये।*”

When translated, it claims “*Breaking News... Mumbai Barber Jihad A Mullah confessed in front of the police that money is received for barber jihad in mosques. As part of this, the Muslim barbers are taught to make an incision with a blade to spread AIDS. All Hindus close to this barber’s salon have to be told that they go only to a Hindu barber and get their shaving and cutting done.”






Fact Check:

The claim is false.

When we performed Google reverse image search and searched for the viral image, we found an article published on the Indiatv website. The article is from July 2013 and is not recent. The article states that the person seen in the image is Bhojpuri actor Irfan khan and his friend Sanjay Yadav, who was arrested on charges of credit card theft and fraud by the Mumbai police. The screenshot shared in this article is being used in viral posts.

According to the report, they were stealing credit cards, cheque books, bill books and then purchasing valuables using the money drawn using them.

Here is the comparison of the viral image with the image published in the India TV report in 2013.


We also found the video published on IndiaTV’s YouTube channel with the title “Mumbai police arrests Bhojpuri actor Irfan Khan for credit card theft”.

Taking a cue from here, we searched for “Bhojpuri actor arrested for fraud”.

This news report was also published in ABP news and also Tv9 Gujarat.

When we searched for reports on the arrest of a barber by the Mumbai police, we did not find any reports.

Therefore, the claim is false. The image is 10 years old and shows a Bhojpuri actor who was arrested for credit card theft and fraud.
