Fact Check: Viral post claiming New York Times editor Joseph Hope authored an article praising Narendra Modi is FALSE

In this article, Narendra Modi is lauded as follows: "Narendra Modi's primary aim is to elevate India into a better country. If left unchecked, India has the potential to become the most powerful nation in the world in the future. This will be a surprise even to countries like the USA, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Japan."

Upon searching the social media with keywords like "Narendra Modi, Joseph Hope," multiple related posts on Facebook and tweets on X surfaced. However, we failed to locate any instance of the mentioned viral post being published in The New York Times. Our investigation into the editor's name revealed that it is Joseph Kahn, the Executive Editor, and not Joseph Hope, the Editor-in-Chief as claimed by the post.

Additionally, we discovered that this fabricated article has been circulating since 2021. India Today has also published a fact-check story concerning the same post. Boomlive, a fact-checking website, reached out to The New York Times' Director of Communications, Nicole Taylor, who confirmed the falseness of the viral post. It was clarified that the Executive Editor at the time was Dean Baquet.
