Fact Check: Viral video of a girl crying is not after Pakistan's loss to India,and she is not an Indian

    The girl seen crying in the video is not an Indian. She is a Pakistani and the video is an old one but not shot after the India – Pakistan match in the World Cup 2023.

The 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is the 13th edition of the one-day international cricket tournament. 10 teams from different countries are taking part in this tournament. After the electrifying win against Pakistan, India is leading the charts with 6 points. Pakistan fans raged with disbelief at this loss.

Several media channels in Pakistan can be seen conducting interviews with disappointed Pakistani fans. In this scenario, a video of a girl fan crying incessantly after meeting Pakistani Cricket captain Babar Azam is going viral with the caption “Babar Azam fan in india | Indian fan crying for babar azam #cwc2023 #cricket #iccworldcup2023 #babar”

The same video is in circulation with the caption “Match to haar gay lakin Indian girl fan nay dil jeet liye...”


Fact Check:

The claim is False. The girl seen in the viral video is not an Indian. She is a Pakistani cricket fan and the video is not recent.

In the video, we can see huge placards of “Southern Punjab Cricket” in the background. When searched, we could identify that the Southern Punjab Cricket team belongs to the country Pakistan. The logo seen in the video belongs to the domestic cricket team hailing from Pakistan.


We can also see the PCB logos on the jackets worn by the girls in the video. Here is the snapshot.


The official Facebook page of ATF Southern Punjab Cricket Association states that they are based in Southern Punjab, Multan, Pakistan.

When we performed a reverse image search using the key frames extracted from the video, we found that the video is from December 2022.

A YouTube video was published on BBN Sports channel on December 12, 2022, with the title “Multani girl crying after selfie with Babar Azam”. This video is a longer version of the viral video.


YouTube channel Samaa TV also shared a video on YouTube with the title “After meeting Babar Azam, a girl started crying profusely | SAMAA TV | 12th December 2022”


Both BBN Sports and Samaa TV are from Pakistan. BBN Sports is a sports news channel that presents a deep analysis of Pakistan cricket and that of India too. BBN has a team of professional journalists with more than 12 years of experience in TV, newspapers, and social media.

SAMAA TV is a 24-hour national television channel in Pakistan.

Hence, the viral video shows a Pakistani girl fan crying after meeting Babar Azam and not a girl fan from India crying after the India-Pakistan match at Ahmedabad. The claim is False.
