Fact Check: Viral video of crows invading a street is not from Kyoto but from Mexico
A video showing hundreds of crows invading one street in a residential area is going viral with the claim that the video is from Kyoto in Japan. Surprisingly, the video is being widely shared not only on social media but on mainstream media too.

In the video, we can see hundreds of crows flocking on the cars and also the buildings in the neighbourhood. This video is viral with captions that birds can sense natural disasters.
The screenshots from the video were also shared in an article published in TV9 Telugu website. The article claims that the crows are flying around an island near Kyoto in Japan.

Several social media users shared the video with the caption “Crows, Kyoto, Japan”.

Fact check:
The claim that the video is from Kyoto, Japan is false. The video is from Mexico.
When the key frames extracted from the video were searched using Google reverse image search, we found a few Mexican publications which shared the images from the video in January 2023.
According to the publications, the video was first shared by a TikTok user @josueresndiz.

According to canal44.com, although the user did not specify where the video was recorded, internet users assumed that it was in a subdivision of Guanajuato, as per the license plate on a vehicle seen in the video.
When the images shared by these reports are compared with the visuals of the viral video, it is certain that both show the same visuals.

The same video has been shared on msn.com on January 30, 2023, where a clear view of the license plate could be seen which certainly shows Guanajuato on it.

Hence, the viral video of crows invading a street in a residential area is from Mexico and not Kyoto, Japan. The claim is false.
