After this win, a video showing the burning of a big pile of firecrackers with the caption “RCB win Celebration begins” was shared by an Instagram user. The video shows firecrackers being laid on the street and burned to emit a lot of smoke.
Fact check:
The claim that the viral video shows the celebrations of RCB fans after the WPL win is False. The video is an old one and not from India.
When we extracted the keyframes from the video and searched them using Google reverse image search, we found that the viral video has been on the internet since 2014. The longer version of the video was published on YouTube by a channel named Nelson Fung on February 19, 2014, with the title “Most powerful way to set off firecrackers”.
The video was also shared by several other YouTube channels.
According to a report published by Deccan Chronicle, which also shared the screen grab from the video, a group of Chinese citizens set off a million firecrackers at once. This report was published on December 31, 2014.
We have no clarity on the occasion, nor did we find any other reports to confirm whether it is from China, but this video does not show the celebrations after RCB won the WPL final match. The claim is False.
