A video showing a woman washing clothes near a water fountain installed at a crossroad junction is in circulation on social media with the claim that it shows the situation in Hyderabad, Telangana. The claim in Telugu goes “ఇండ్లల్లో నీళ్లు లేక రోడ్డుపై ఉన్న వాటర్ ఫౌంటెన్ వద్ద బట్టలు ఉతుక్కుంటున్న తెలంగాణ మహిళలు. ఇట్లాంటి దౌర్భాగ్యమైన పాలన అందిస్తున్న గుంపుమేస్త్రి సన్నాసికి కర్రు కాల్చి వాతపెడితే తప్ప సిగ్గురాదు... #ప్రజాపాలన @
When translated, it claims: “Telangana women washing clothes at a fountain on the road as water is not available at their houses. The mobster dispensing such disgusting governance will not feel ashamed unless he is branded with a hot iron... #ప్రజాపాలన @revanth_
Fact Check:
The claim is Misleading. The viral video is from Andhra Pradesh and not from Telangana.
When we used the extracted keyframes from the video to perform Google reverse image search, we found that a few social media posts shared the same video with the captions like “Nidadavolu lo water fountain pedite battalu wash chesukuntunaru”. When translated, it states: “When water fountain was installed in Nidadavolu, Andhra Pradesh, people started washing clothes with that water.”
When searched further, we found Telugu news articles sharing the screenshot from the viral video which stated that a video of a woman washing her clothes using the water fountain has gone viral on social media. The water fountain was constructed at the Ganesh Chowrasta by AP tourism Department as part of the development of Nidadavolu, Andhra Pradesh, but a woman can be seen washing clothes, while the tourists who came to see the fountain were taking pictures of the fountain.
The article goes on to state that the video was shared online and went viral.
According to Samayam Telugu, the water fountain was inaugurated by the local MLA G Srinivasulu Naidu at Ganapathi Centre in the town.
Hence, the viral video does not belong to Telangana, it shows a woman washing clothes using water from a fountain in Nidadavolu, a town in Andhra Pradesh. The claim is Misleading.
