Fact Check: Websites charging for MSME registration certificates are FAKE

Further, the registered units are given priority when they seek licences and certificates from the Government of India.
Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of Indian economy. The Ministry of MSMEs offers many schemes and subsidies to make businesses lucrative and benefit the owners.
Registered MSMEs also enjoy the privilege of lower interest rate on bank loans, which helps them save by a huge margin. MSME owners can avail themselves of bank loans with an interest rate as low as 1 pc and also friendlier EMIs. Further, the registered units are given priority when they seek licences and certificates from the Government of India.
There are several websites promising easy registration to the MSMEs, on shelling out money. Remember, genuine websites operated by the government do not charge for issuing registration certificates to the MSMEs.

The websites seen here are NOT genuine websites. They are fake and charge money to issue an MSME certificate, which in fact, is offered free of cost by the government.
The MSME registration service is provided free of cost by the Government of India. Any registered website of the Indian government has the extension gov.in and not .org or .com.

When searching for the domain details of https://msmeregistrar.org/, we found that it is also registered in Arizona, USA.
Taking keywords 'MSME registration + gov.in', we found a website https://
To confirm whether this website is genuine, we looked up the domain details in whois.com. The results showed that the website was registered by the National Informatics Centre and the organization of the registrant is the Ministry of MSME in Delhi, India. The address on the website is given as the Ministry of MSME, Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi.
After confirming that this website is genuine and it belongs to the Government of India, we searched for the cost of registration of MSMEs on the site and found that there is no fee charged for the service.

On further searching, we also found the tweet of PIB Fact check which also confirmed that a specific website advertising to provide registration to MSMEs is fake and it charges Rs 2,700 for the certificate.
The project of registration of MSMEs was previously called Udyog Aadhar, which has now been changed to Udyam registration. Taking advantage of this change, a few websites are seen to be charging users for getting an MSME certificate.
Hence, websites claiming to provide registration services to MSMEs at a price are NOT genuine as MSME registration is a free service.
