Mahesh Babu’s career has many ups and down but when the superstar’s movie comes, there will be huge expectations from audience and trade. Though ‘Brahmotsavam’ was a big disaster, there were huge expectations from ‘Spyder’. Though ‘Spyder’ failed, ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ had equal expectations. Its business surpassed the estimates. In ‘Spyder’ Mahesh Babu acted as a spy and a stylish man who sees the end of a sadist while in ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ he unexpectedly comes to politics at a young age and assumes a position held by his father. Showing that CM too has heart, he loves a middle class girl. He acted as a super stylish and with his amazing acting flattened all. ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ got hit talk and since it was Mahesh’s movie its business crossed the expectations. Thus producers became safe but buyers had to suffer some losses. After ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ production of ‘Maharishi’ began under the direction of Vamshi Paidipally and under the joint production of Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP. Though there is not a single blockbuster in Vamshi Paidipally’s track record and though Vamshi is not known as class director, once the film was launched it received huge expectations. However, with the music given by music director Devi Sri Prasad the songs of ‘Maharishi’ brought down the expectations. The expectations also came down when ‘Maharishi’ began to be compared with blockbuster ‘Shrimanthudu’. However, ‘Maharishi’ pre-release event once again increased the expectations. After ‘Maharishi’ trailer was released all doubts about the movie were cleared. People started having huge expectations from the film. Amid interesting aspects like glamour doll heroine Pooja Hegde and another hero Allari Naresh doing key role in the movie, ‘Maharishi’ was released today. Let us see in this review how Mahesh by putting in so much effort gave what kind of hit to Vamshi Paidipally, Pooja Hegde and Allari Naresh.
Rishi Kumar (Mahesh Babu) from his college days has the determination to reach to top position in life. As expected Rishi becomes CEO of a company. He emerges as a businessman who does not know what is failure. He is a man who use hardships and dreams as steps to achieve success. Coming from a middle class background, he moves step by step. He believes that his career and his success is not the fruit of his efforts alone but behind this is also the hardwork and sacrifices of his two friends (Pooja Hegde, Allari Naresh) What Rishi does for Ravi (Allari Naresh)? How Rishi who believes achieving success means only earning money and enhancing the status turned into Maharishi? What is Pooja’s role who acted as friend of Mahesh and Allari Naresh in this movie? To know answer to all these questions one has to see ‘Maharishi’ movie on silver screen.
Actors and acting
Mahesh Babu will have more class elements than mass elements. He is good looking and a brand ambassador of style. His class looks are unbeatable. However, he doesn’t suit for mass and middle class looks. In ‘Maharishi’ Mahesh Babu showed three types of angles. He looks different in every shade. Mahesh’s fans liked his bearded look. As CEO Mahesh looked stylish while as a student he entertains masses. While fighting over farmers’ problems, he looks senior. Mahesh looked more dashing on the screen. Allari Naresh, who had series of failures as hero, found a new role in ‘Maharishi’. In the role of Ravi, he looks a pillar of ‘Maharishi’ and his acting is such that no other actor would have fit into this role. In the past Allari Naresh played a key role in ‘Gamyam’ with had Sharwanand as hero. His role in ‘Maharishi’ is as powerful as his character as Gali Sreenu in ‘Gamyam’. It is now decided that Naresh’s name will be considered for such roles. Pooja Hegde is currently in the top list. Though she has no blockbuster to her credit, she is doing movies with star heroes with jet speed. In this movie she has got a good role. She was not just confined to glamour. Pooja was given importance according to the story. In the college scenes she looks mischievous. Pooja looks more glamorous in songs. Jagapathi Babu, who played villain’s role in ‘Maharishi’ has once again impressed as stylish villain. Vennela Kishore’s comedy is not great but here and there he makes audience laugh. Like always Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Rao Ramesh did justice to their roles.
‘Maharishi’ movie is very special for Mahesh Babu. This is because ‘Maharishi’ is 25th film of his career. That’s why three producers Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP and also Vamshi Paidipally worked hard to give a memorable hit to Mahesh. ‘Maharishi’ story has all that what needs for a milestone movie. The scenes introducing Rishi as CEO are very stylish. Immediately after that flash back begins. As CEO and as student, Mahesh showed two variations in his role. College scenes move in a smooth manner. While projecting emotions like friendship and love, it has made an effort to question the educational system. The college background and the friendship among three impressed the audience. Songs in the first half, comedy scenes, and similarly Mahesh’s speech on ‘success is a journey’ , fight scenes, twist in interview are special attractions. Second half becomes even more interesting. In the first half Rishi looks like a college boy but in the second he fights over farmes’ issues. Farmers are often described as the backbone of the country and their plight has been portrayed as an eye opener by director Vamshi. Making this point in a commercial movie is laudable. The film is a bit long but every minute is important. As a result audience want to enjoy every minute. There is a feeling of something missing here and there. However, Mahesh-Naresh episode which is considered most important should have more emotions. Similarly Vamshi Paidipally showed ‘Maharishi’ climax in a routine way but shot it in an impressive fashion. Finally Mahesh ‘Maharishi’ journey has started.
Performance of technical wing
Devi Sri may not have given the kind of amazing music which he had scored for ‘Shrimanthudu’ and ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ but two emotional songs are good. Background music is not to the expected mark. Ever since ‘Maharishi’ songs came to the market, the general feeling was that Devi Sri disappointed audience with his music. K. U. Mohan’s cinematography is very rich. The movie has been shown as stylish and rich. However, Praveen K. L’s editing should have been sharper. This movie is almost three hour long. There is scope for cutting many scenes and it appears that the film unit has not given a thought to this. As far as producers are concerned every frame shows that they spent huge money to give best film to Mahesh.
Plus points: Mahesh’s amazing acting as Maharishi, Pooja’s glamour, strong story, Naresh’s acting, college episode, production value and interval emotional scenes.
Minus points: Devi Sri music, editing, duration and dull narration.
