BJP eyes on TDP leaders, to emerge as main opposition

The Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to emerge as the main opposition party in Andhra Pradesh. The party leadership had prepared a political engineering work to strengthen the party at the state level first and then at the village level with the support of the state level leaders. There are a couple of plans with the BJP to emerge as a strong political force in the State. This exercise is likely to start once the Parliament session ends.

According to the sources, the BJP is planning for a split in the Telugu Desam Party. The split is likely to start at the Parliament with at least five MPs quitting TDP and joining the BJP. It would then lay its hands on AP Assembly, where the TDP has 23 MLAs including Chandrababu Naidu. The TDP also has 29 MLCs in AP and it is said that there are more than a dozen MLAs and another dozen MLCs who are ready to quit TDP and join the BJP.

The BJP had already admitted former MP Kothapalli Geetha in the party. The leaders are in contact with TDP leaders like J C Diwakar Reddy, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao and others asking them to join the party. The TDP leaders have lost the hope of rebuilding the party and win the 2024 Assembly elections. It is said that Chandrababu Naidu is not able to match the speed of Jaganmohan Reddy. A section of the TDP leaders are not happy with Nara Lokesh to lead the party. They are not ready to accept Lokesh as the party leader. There is a strong demand from some of the leaders to bring in actor Junior NTR or Lokesh wife, Brahmani into active politics, which Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh are not accepting.

On the other hand, there are strong indications from the BJP leadership to the TDP leaders on strengthening the party in the State and prepare for the 2024 elections. These leaders are of the opinion that they would win at least some seats if they are with the BJP and not the TDP. These leaders see no future for the TDP in the State and that feeling is coming as an advantage to the BJP to implement its plans.

It is to be seen how the TDP leadership would save the party from the defections, once the BJP begins its aakarsh programme.
