AP decides to drop Samaikyandhra cases

The State government is planning to withdraw cases against the people and leaders filed during the Samaikyandhra agitation before bifurcation of the State in 2014. There was a mass protest across the 13 districts of the State against bifurcation with people coming on to the streets voluntarily and holding protests.

The government employees, led by NGO leader Ashok Babu rallied all over the state and the RTC and electricity employees went on strike for 60 days. Though public properties were not destroyed or damaged during the movement, cases were filed on several leaders and people during the agitation.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced that the state government has decided to withdraw the pending cases registered on the protesters. He announced it in the Assembly on Monday during a short duration discussion on implementation of AP Reorganisation Act.

Chandrababu Naidu has stated that at that time police filed cases against the protesters who agitated against bifurcation and in the name of Samaikyandhra. He said that the state government will lift all the cases, except the cases involved where violence is reported. The government will come with modalities and guidelines on it, shortly.

Chandrababu Naidu directed the Home department officials to examine the issue to withdraw the pending cases, especially on the youth. In fact, this was a long pending demand from various sections of people in the state. The cases were booked before 2014 and till date, people against whom the cases were booked are facing problems.
