AP lines up festivals, moves parties on boats

The Andhra Pradesh government had lined up several festivals across the State from the third week of October. The government had decided to organise these festivals or events involving people to promote the State as tourist destination.

The officials have planned Handicrafts Mela at Tirupati from October 25 to 29. Similarly, the government would organise a wide range of programmes across the State from November 10 to 18 and drama festival at Kurnool on November 29 and 30. During these two days, the government also plans to organise beach Olympiad at Suryalanka, Chirala and Kothapatnam in the State.

The government had also planned boat festival in Vijayawada for four days from December 6 and Amaravati Adventures on December 21 and 22.

The Chief Minister told the officials to plan these events to promote world class tourism in the State. He wanted the tourism department to grab major share of tourist footfalls to the State. He had also directed the officials to come up with creative programmes and involve private players in the field.

Meanwhile, the chief minister had advised the officials to start celebrations on boats for the people. He advised them to offer parties and other celebrations for the people on the boats. He wanted them to start the boat celebrations at Vijayawada, Visakhaptnam, Kakinada and Krishnapatnam initially and extend the same to the water bodies across the State. He wanted them to pull private players to operate boats with restaurants in these places that would increase the tourist footfalls.

The chief minister had also asked the officials to promote nature tourism in Araku, Lambasingi, Maredumilli, Rampachodavaram and Nallamala. He had instructed the officials to construct resorts in these places with private partnership to promote tourist activities.

The chief minister also asked the officials to promote State’s special handicrafts like Mangalagiri, Dharmavaram, Uppada saris and Kalamkari products, besides the Kondapalli toys and the Andhra special foods. These would attract the tourists all through the year, he said and had directed them to come up with proposals to promote these activities.
