Chinnababu stokes internal fight in Kurnool TDP

Kunrool politics is once again hotting up. Groupism in the ruling Telugu Desam Party is likely to intensify. The reason for this is Chief Minister Chandrababu’s son and minister Nara Lokesh. Lokesh came to Kurnool district on a two-day visit. His supporters and party activists made large-scale arrangements for his visit. They accorded him a warm welcome. Two groups are fighting hard for Kurnool City seat. The groups include sitting MLA S V Mohan Reddy and TDP Rajya Sabha member T G Venkatesh’s son T G Bharat.

MLA S. V. Mohan Reddy welcomed Nara Lokesh in Kurnool district on Monday with a huge rally. All along the route, he along with his followers raised slogans hailing Lokesh and also showered flowers on him. How could T G Venkatesh keep quiet? He had already made arrangements to welcome Lokesh in the same manner as S V. He prepared a huge garland and with the help of a crane put it around Lokesh in an attempt to get the attention of Chinna Babu.

For some time, these two groups have been publicly competing for Kurnool City seat. In fact in the previous elections, Kurnool seat was won by S V Mohan Reddy who had then contested as YSRCP candidate. Later, when his brother-in-law Bhuma Nagi Reddy decided to change the party, S V Mohan Reddy also joined TDP. Till S V Mohan joined TDP, the party affairs in Kurnool city used to be managed by T G Venkatesh’s son T.G. Bharat. Since TG family has firm grip over Kurnool city, the TDP leadership also encouraged TG Bharat. Keen to see his son contest for MLA seat in the coming elections, TG through various service activities was going before the people.

In this context, sometime ago a battle for supremacy began between TG Venkatesh and SV Mohan Reddy groups. Mohan Reddy complained to TDP leadership that TG Venkatesh conducted an opinion poll on social media on who should be the party’s candidate in the coming elections. In the situation Nara Lokesh who came to Kunrool on a visit appealed to people to elect Mohan Reddy with huge majority in the coming elections. Lokesh’s appeal came as a setback to TG group. It wondered how a candidate can be decided in advance and it alleged that Lokesh started a new tradition in TDP. Thus Lokesh’s visit is likely to once again fuel the differences within the party. However, a debate is also going on whether Lokesh made this comment in a flow or he deliberately said this.
