Jagan too asks for 25 MP seats

Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu had been asking people to give him 25 Lok Sabha seats in the next elections so that he could mount pressure on the Central government and get the special category status (SCS) to the State. He wants to have bargaining capacity with the Centre and a role to play in the selection of next prime minister and that is possible if he wins all the 25 Lok Sabha seats.

Having faced uncomfortable relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the TDP supremo now wants to have a commanding relationship at the national level in deciding on the next prime minister. The TDP chief had already hinted at backing the NDA if it changed the prime minister candidate and had even favoured the candidature of Nitin Gadkari.

Now, having seen the TDP’s president’s stand on the Parliament seats, Leader of Opposition and the YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy had raised the demand of asking for the 25 Lok Sabha seats for the YSR Congress. “Give me 25 Lok Sabha seats in the next election. I will get you the Special Category Status,” is what he had asked the people at Machilipatnam in Krishna district.

While both the TDP and the YSR Congress have no strength to win all the 25 Lok Sabha seats but what they mean was that they need majority seats. Or have an excuse that they can’t get the SCS to the State even if one seat falls short of the 25. This is what politics is in Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had joined the 25 seats race, should also target the BJP for betrayal and denial of the special category status. While it is clear that his immediate enemy is Chandrababu Naidu, he should understand that targeting TDP chief alone is not going to help him. He has to hit the BJP and Narendra Modi for betraying the State. He should expose both the TDP and BJP equally failing which he would be branded as pro-BJP.

He can’t be silent on the BJP’s role or Narendra Modi’s role in denying the special category status to the State. It would cost him dear if he fails to nail Modi and BJP as he intensifies fight for the special category status, which is set to be the election slogan.
