Kanna meets Modi, tough days ahead for TDP

Former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party AP unit chief Kanna Lakshminarayana had his maiden meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last evening. It was the first meeting between the two after his appointment. He had already met party chief Amit Shah a couple of weeks ago and had one to one discussion with him on the party affairs in the State. Now, his meeting with the Prime Minister comes amidst speculation that the BJP leadership is thinking seriously to trouble the ruling Telugu Desam Party in the State.

Both Amit Shah and Narendra Modi are angry with the TDP and its chief Chandrababu Naidu for betraying them by breaking the alliance and launching an anti-BJP campaign in the State. “Naidu had agreed for the special package in place of the special category status and went on to claim the best of the package deal for one year. What made him to take a U turn and go back to the special category status demand is nothing but opportunistic politics. It has to be equally and strongly countered,” Modi and Shah have reportedly told Kanna.

The BJP firebrand leaders like Kanna, Somu Veerraju, P N V Madhav and Vishnuvardhana Reddy, besides G V L Narasimha Rao were left to go hard against the TDP. They were asked to take on Chandrababu Naidu on his U turn and false campaign against the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The BJP leaders were asked to counter Chandrababu Naidu’s criticism of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While this campaign goes on between the two parties, the meeting between Modi and Kanna is seen as some political and advanced plot to trouble the TDP and Chandrababu Naidu. Sources in the BJP say that the Prime Minister is having some information about the housing scheme and the NREGS works where the Opposition finds huge corruption. The BJP leaders these days are taking objection to the TDP government changing the name of the housing scheme into NTR housing and claiming the total credit to the TDP. The BJP leaders also allege that the State government had enhanced the cost of the house to Rs 6 lakh putting a burden of Rs 3 lakh on the beneficiary while the Central government is giving Rs 1.50 lakh as subsidy which has to be equally matched by the State government. However, the BJP leaders say that the State government is not paying its share of Rs 1.50 lakh and the additional Rs 3 lakh attached to the beneficiary is a fraud.

The BJP leaders assert that the Prime Minister Modi is serious on this and would soon hold the TDP’s neck to get the ‘scam’ exposed. Will this happen or will the BJP come out with some other plan is to be seen as the days roll out.
