KVP invites Naidu to back Congress

Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao had invited Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party national president Chandrababu Naidu to support the Congress in getting the special category status to the State.

KVP had written an open letter to the Chief Minister narrating how the Congress had been fighting for the SCS to the State for the past four years and welcomed Chandrababu Naidu to align with the Congress in the fight. “Though you (Naidu) have taken up the SCS very recently, I welcome you to join us in the fight to achieve the SCS for the State,” KVP said in his letter.

KVP said that the Congress had several times appealed Naidu to support its SCS agitation on the lines of Jallikattu agitation in Tamil Nadu but he and the Telugu Desam leaders had ridiculed the protests. Naidu had now changed his opinion, the Congress MP said. He said that he had introduced a private member’s Bill for SCS and fulfilment of bifurcation promises in the Rajya Sabha with the support of 14 political parties but the TDP had never support his effort.

He further said that TDP government had filed cases against Congress leaders and activists for staging protests and agitations for SCS. KVP opined that there is no use of SCS protests by TDP as Prime Minister Narendra Modi would never accept it, and asked Naidu to support Congress which was capable of giving SCS.

Interestingly, it was another senior Congress leader, Sailajanath, had written to Jaganmohan Reddy to decide on whether he would support the Congress for the SCS or sail with the BJP. Now, KVP wants the TDP chief to decide on supporting the Congress in the fight.

Going by these two statements, it looks like the Congress is trying to fix the TDP and the YSR Congress on the fight for the SCS, ahead of the elections, where the SCS would be the core issue.
