Naidu says he is not in PM race

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had once again made his mind clear on the prime minister post. He reiterated his statement that he is not aspiring to be the prime minister of the country.

When some voters of Serilingampalli in Telangana, raised slogans that they want to see him as prime minister, the AP chief minister said his mission was only to unseat Narendra Modi. It was the TDP leaders from AP who raised this issue. Narasaraopet MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao was one of the first leaders in the state to bat for Chandrababu Naidu as the next prime minister. However, Naidu discounted this statement and said he would dedicate his time for AP politics only.

Chandrababu Naidu further said that he had rejected the offer twice in the past and was not accepting it now. He reiterated this when he had a meeting with the editors of the Telugu media in Hyderabad. He tried to explain to the editors and senior journalists how he played crucial role in the national politics and decided on the candidates for the prime minister and President posts, besides others.

Now, time had come to him once again to play key role in the national politics, while continuing to stay with the state government. He said he would work to defeat the BJP and Narendra Modi in the next elections. He explained how he was trying to unite the anti-BJP forces at the national level with the help of the Congress.

He blamed Narendra Modi and Amit Shah of resorting to witch-hunt on political rivals. He tried to reveal the rivalry with Modi and said that his statements against Modi government during Godra violence could be the reason for Modi to work against him. However, he said he spoke for the nation and the people then and was speaking for the people now. “There is no difference in me. I spoke for the people of Gujarat at the time of Godra violence and am speaking for Andhra now,” Chandrababu Naidu told the editors.
