Naidu wants to be king in AP, king maker in TS

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is dreaming of becoming king in Andhra Pradesh for another term and king maker in the neighbouring Telangana State after the 2019 elections. Riding on the support that he had received from several regional and national parties at his Bengaluru camp, the TDP chief had claimed that his Telugu Desam Party would command the national politics after the next round of elections. He is said to have pledged to work for the defeat of Narendra Modi at the national level calling him as dictator for the nation and betrayer for the Telugu people.

Chandrababu Naidu had addressed the Mahanadu, the annual three-day programme of the party in Telangana the other day, where he saw the future of the party in the two Telugu States and the national level as well. While keeping his plans undisclosed, he claimed that the TDP would be the king in Andhra Pradesh and king maker in the rest of the country including the Telangana State. He predicted a fractured verdict in Telagnana where the ruling TRS and the Opposition Congress would fall short of the numbers to form the government. It would be then the TDP which is going to decide who would rule the State.

The TDP chief saw his party’s future as that of the Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka, which had formed the government with the BJP and the Congress not having the numbers. Though the JD (S) had won just 34 Assembly seats in the 222-member house, its leader Kumaraswamy was offered the Chief Minister post by the Congress which had won 78 seats to keep the BJP out of power though it had won 104 seats. He saw this type of arrangement for the TDP in Telangana after the elections.

Interestingly, Chandrababu Naidu in 2014 had declared that he would stay back in Hyderabad for next 10 years to restore the TDP government in Telangana. But in less than one year, he had to move out of the common capital, rush to Vijayawada where there is no infrastructure for him to stay and work as Chief Minister. He lived in a special bus that was made for him initially and then established a temporary camp office. Now, his statement that the TDP would be the king maker in TS like the JD (S) of Karnataka is seen as a day dream
