Rattled by IT raids, Naidu goes hard on Modi

The State had witnessed series of raids by the Income Tax department officials. The IT officials have conducted raids at several places in the State, focusing on the real estate firms and exporters of prawns and cashew.

The ruling Telugu Desam Party leaders including some ministers were up in arms against the Central government for sending IT teams to conduct raids. The Cabinet meeting, which was held later in the day, condemned the raids and said that the raids were part of the witch-hunt by the Central government against the State. It was also felt that the raids were aimed at disturbing the inflow of investments to the State and the entry of big industrial and business firms to the State.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu felt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is against the State and its development. He further accused the Prime Minister of trying to destroy the State with an aim to destroy the TDP. He said that the Prime Minister had destroyed Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with political motive and had come to Andhra Pradesh. The TDP and the people would not let Modi play his political games here, he said.

Chandrababu Naidu wants to take advantage of the IT raids by campaigning as they are witch-hunt and he is also trying to tickle the Telugu pride sentiment on this count. While it is not sure yet whether people will buy his claims or reject, but the TDP chief is all set to gain political mileage from these raids. He is also trying to save his supporters from these raids and the subsequent cases to be filed by the IT.

It was six years ago, the political powers have used the same trick or strategy against the then Congress party’s prodigal son, Jaganmohan Reddy, who was later arrested and kept in the jail. It was the Congress at the helm that point of time. Now, it is the BJP sitting in the top seat and implementing the same strategy at the rivals.

When Jaganmohan Reddy was targeted by the Congress on the same lines, it was law taking its own course for Chandrababu Naidu. Now, when the BJP is targeting some loyalists of the TDP, it is witch-hunt for him. This is what Chandrababu Naidu believes in and wants the people to believe in.
