Roja questions DGP for silence on canteen owner

The State police are investigating into the attack on Jaganmohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam airport. Though Jaganmohan Reddy refused to give his statement to the police about the attack, the government had constituted a special investigation team, which is probing into the issue.

The YSR Congress, which had requested the Central agency for investigation into the case, has its own objections to the way the State police are investigating the case. Party legislator R K Roja had raised several questions to the police on the investigation.

The first question she had put was why the police did not take the airport canteen owner for questioning. The attacker, Srinivasa Rao, is an employee of the airport canteen which is owned by a Telugu Desam Party leader. The investigating police were expected to question the canteen owner for giving job to the attacker. But, the police did not question the canteen owner yet. This silence on the part of the investigating police raises doubts over the very credibility of the investigation.

The investigating police also did not question the police officers who have given no objection certificate to Srinivasa Rao to get the job in the airport canteen. Srinivasa Rao has two police cases pending against him in his native village in East Godavari district and Roja wondered how the police issued no objection certificate when there are cases. This lapse also raises doubts over the sincereity of the police in the inquiry.

These are the questions that the YSR Congress MLA had raised for which the police have to reply. “There are doubts over the investigation as DGP R P Thakur had claimed that the attacker was YSR Congress sympathiser. This statement came from the DGP even before conducting preliminary enquiry as the attacker was in the custody of the airport security forces. This statement, termed as motivated, leads the state police in the probe” said   Roja, besides others in the party, expressed their own doubts.

It is the responsibility of the police to clear these doubts, if not for the YSR Congress, as people are closely watching the developments of the case. It is time for the police to prove that they don’t go by the political line for any reason.
