Bharatiya Janata Party’s fire-brand MLC Somu Veerraju was at his witty best in hitting at Telugu Desam Party supremo and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He is known for his hard hitting criticism of Chandrababu Naidu, ever since the latter broke the alliance with the BJP and walked out of the NDA.
Once again referring to Chief Minister’s claims on the Polavaram project, the other day, in the presence of Union Minister for Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari, the BJP MLC said that Chandrababu Naidu had no right to take any credit for the Polavaram project. “He did not start the project. He did not spend single paise on the project. It is the national project and the Central government is funding it,” Veerraju said.
He went one step forward to discount Chandrababu Naidu’s claims on the Polavaram project stating that if the TDP chief was committed for the project, why he started the two lift irrigations schemes. The TDP government in the State started Tadipudi lift irrigation scheme and the Pushkaram lift irrigation scheme. The Tadipudi is pumping the Godavari river water to West Godavari while the Pushkaram lift irrigation scheme is to provide water for the East Godavari district.
“Chandrababu Naidu is not interested in the Polavaram project and it is for this reason he had started the two lift irrigation schemes. He is not confident of completing the project. Still he is staking claim for the project as it is being funded by the Central government,” Veerraju said.
The BJP MLC also took a dig at Chandrababu Naidu for speaking politics in the government meetings or the meetings with the officials. He sought to advise the TDP chief to differentiate between the government and the political parties. He took objections to the Chief Minister using government money and government resources to criticise the Central government for political mileage.
