Speaker Meets YSCRP MPs, big trouble ahead for TDP

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, had reportedly called for YSR Congress MPs for discussion over their resignations. The five YSR Congress MPs have submitted their resignation in protest against the Central government not granting the special category status to the State. They have submitted their resignations to the Speaker on the last day of the Budget Session of Parliament.

Though the resignation letters were in the speaker format, the Lok Sabha Speaker wanted to have a word with the MPs directly before acting on the letters. As there is more than six months for the next general elections and if the resignations are accepted now, the Election Commission would have to hold by-election.

The by-election would be a major issue for the ruling TDP as the MPs resigned on special category status demand. If the TDP contests this election it would have to answer to the people why it is contesting when the MPs have resigned for the special category status demand and when the TDP itself also claims to be fighting for the same.

In the neighbouring Telangana State when the TRS MLAs and MPs resigned for the separate State demand, the every party which contested the by-election was questioned by the people and branded them as anti-Telangana. Going by this yardstick if TDP now contests these seats, it cannot escape being branded as anti-special category status demand and people will doubt its integrity on the demand. If it decides against contesting the seats, the credit would go to the YSR Congress as no other party would contest
