A newspaper clipping of Dainik Jagran, dated March 2, is viral on social media. The headline says Hindi-speaking labourers are being killed in Tamil Nadu. The text below says Tamil natives have asked Hindi speakers to vacate the state before March 20.
The clipping has a photo of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and says that he asked Hindi-speaking migrant workers to leave the state. The Tamil Nadu government won’t be responsible if anything happens to them for not complying with the rule, he said, as they could even be killed.
It also has a photo of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and a quote where he requests Hindi-speaking workers to return to UP with a guarantee of employment.
FACT CHECK:
Firstly, no such news or statement has been reported by any media organization or political party. There has been no news on Hindi-speaking labourers being killed in Tamil Nadu or on M K Stalin asking Hindi-speaking migrant workers to leave the state. it should be noted that the clipping has incomplete sentences and numerous grammatical errors. There are also many English words written in the Hindi text, such as ‘Tamil person’, ‘worker’ and ‘UP me’. This suggests that the copy is not genuine.
Secondly, a watermark that reads “News Banner Maker” can be seen. “News Banner Maker” is an application on the Google play store that allows users to make such newspaper cuttings. One of the templates on the app is the same as the viral image
Therefore, it is clear that the viral newspaper clipping created through an app is being falsely shared to say Hindi-speaking migrant workers are being asked to vacate Tamil Nadu.
