Fact Check: Oz Cricketer Adam Gilchrist Didn’t Make Any Statement Comparing Kohli, Tendulkar’s Records

Adam Gilchrist refutes making statement comparing Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar’s century records

Update: 2023-09-26 07:59 GMT
statement comparing Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar’s record is being attributed to former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist. The claim states that Adam Gilchrist said, "Kohli is being rested on a regular basis these days, I think they want Sachin’s record to be unbeaten."

FACT CHECK:

We performed a keyword search but could not find any news reports about this statement. In fact, Gilchrist, himself, dismissed the viral claim.

Via X (formerly Twitter), he clarified that he did not make this particular statement about Kohli and Tendulkar. In response to a claim, he said, "Never said this."

The same quote was attributed to South African cricketer AB de Villiers as well, but we were not able to find any credible report to prove that he made the statement.

This comparison went viral following the recently held 2023 Asia Cup, where Kohli scored his 47th century in One-Day Internationals (ODI) against Pakistan. The statement indicates that if Kohli manages to secure two more centuries, he will match Tendulkar’s record. Since Kohli didn't play in a few matches during the Asia cup, the viral statement suggests that Kohli has not been playing as much, due to the probability of him breaking Tendulkar's record.

Evidently, it is clear that Adam Gilchrist did not make this particular statement on Kohli and Tendulkar.
