Fact Check: Viral video does not show harmful effects of energy drinks on health

A video of a man allegedly showing the harmful effects of energy drinks on one's body is viral on social media.

Some more videos in the series are also viral showing the man experimenting with numerous items. He experiments with eggs, fruits, and bread by making them into rubber-like materials. He also is able to crush a wooden hammer with his hands after adding white vinegar and an energy drink.

This video is being shared with the caption, "Please spread this information about energy drinks and save their lives! Anyone who sees this will never have an energy drink ever again. No wonder people get sick!!!!!"

FACT CHECK:

While there is evidence that connects negative health consequences to energy drinks, this video does not prove it.

Upon performing a reverse image search on one of the keyframes of the video, we found the same video on a Facebook page, uploaded in 2018 and 2020. The page belongs to a man named Rick Lax, who identifies himself as a 'magician' and has several prank and magic videos uploaded in his page.

In the 2020 post, the video caption clearly states that it is a parody magic trick hack. Lax even tags his show called “The Rick Lax Show” in the post, a channel where he posts many such tricks.

The same is also uploaded on several YouTube channels. The video is titled, "LIFE HACKS WITH ENERGY DRINKS YOU NEVER KNEW EXISTED (Parody Magic Hacks from Rick Lax)."

Several medical research studies show that energy drinks can cause serious health conditions, particularly in children, teenagers and youth. However, nowhere is it reported that energy drinks exhibit the elasticity or adhesive properties that could stick a blown-up balloon.

Evidently, the viral video does not show real negative health consequences on consumption of energy drinks. A prank magic video is being shared to show the hazardous properties of energy drinks.
