Sometimes by asking to link Aadhaar, sometimes by showing different tricks like SIM update, they extort lakhs and sometimes crores. After repeated warnings from the Police and Cyber ​​Department, this online looter gang has chosen a new path.

Robbery, kidnapping, murder, such crimes are taking behind the cyber fraud. Anyone who is not aware can become a victim of cyber fraud. A cyber fraudster is a criminal who does not appear to the person he is robbing. So phone calls are the main medium for the cyber frauds. They call and pretend to install the telephone tower, otherwise they pretend to be bank employees and ask for a loan pass or Aadhar link with pan. All the money disappears from the account of the concerned person after receiving the OTP. Now the cyber frauds are started looking became a police person. After making a phone call by identifying himself as the police or any Govt official, he started the robbery process by showing fear of digital arrest on various charges.

He is afraid of being arrested if he does not pay the money. This kind of gang are being arrested in last month in Odisha. According to the information given by the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police, 25 states have been accused of defrauding Rs 35 crore.

The "Digital Arrest" scam involves fraudsters impersonating officials from various organizations, including government agencies and law enforcement, to intimidate and defraud individuals. The scam typically starts with a video call, where the scammers falsely accuse the victim of participating in illegal activities. These accusations are crafted to induce panic, pressuring the victim into complying with financial demands.

The new way is to dress up as the police, these cyber robbers are taking the way of fake police, fake warrants, fake arrests. This is now the new format of cyber fraud. They are looting lakhs of rupees in the name of digital arrest. Earlier, such looting has been alleged in the capital Delhi and the Mayanagri Mumbai and in various parts of South India also.

A man named Rohit Kumar from Dhenkanal city of Odisha survived being a victim of such robbery. Over the phone, the crook threatened to arrest him by saying that some Drugs was found in there parcel. He also sent some links and asked to register and upload his documents. He even asked to pay first one lakh, then fifty thousand, then twenty-five thousand. However, after talking for a long time, Rohit started avoiding the said phone call. And in time he escaped from it.

A resident of Delhi posted on his X account and wrote that, she received a call from the customs department alleging that white poison was found in it. The robber told her over the phone that she could get an advance bill to avoid arrest. Some documents were also sent by spoilers online.

In Odisha, there are increasing allegations of cheating by cyber fraudsters. They are robbing lakhs of rupees by calling themselves as Mumbai, Delhi Police or customs department officials for fear of digital arrest. And these are called the fake police. After a gang of this fraudsters are arrested the police will get a loots of informations from them.

During the investigation, the commissionerate police found out that 35 crores of fraud had been committed in 25 states including Odisha. In their name, 4600 complaints were filed in the country and 178 complaints have been received. Last May, the Commissionerate Police arrested this gang after a Bhubaneswar businessman was accused of defrauding Rs36 lakh.

Similarly, while claiming to be a CBI officer, he attempted to rob a woman trader in Sambalpur, Odisha. The threat filled the call and warned of arrest if money was not paid.

On the other hand, such a gang has been arrested by the Bhubaneswar- Cuttack commissionerate police. The police raided the call center in a rented apartment in Sundarpada area of ​​Bhubaneswar and busted a fake call centre.

The police commissioner has advised people to complain to the police without paying money if they receive a phone call in the name of police or CBI. For this, the police commissioner asked the residents of the capital to call the helpline number 1930.

Similarly, Koch Behar police shared the said documents and stated that it is fake.

An awareness camp has been held under the direction of Angul District Superintendent Rahul Jain. While cyber fraudsters are deceiving the public by making fake phone calls with digital arrests, a message on this has been broadcasted to the public. DSP Yogeswari Behera, Nodal Officer of District Cyber ​​Cell, gave this message.

According to cyber expert Prashant Sahu, don't download unknown apps on your mobile also don't keep your PAN or Aadhaar photo. If you want to keep a soft copy, put it on Google Drive or DigiLocker. On the other hand, if the government makes every SIM e-KYC, then cyber crime will be completely stopped, said cyber expert Prashant Sahu.

Similarly, Anand Pradhan, Regional Director of IIMC in Dhenkanal, informed that students are being taught about cyber security in the course of journalism. A journalist can create awareness among the public by serving news. Shri Pradhan also said that a journalist must first be aware of himself. Keeping your mobile, your social sites or your website secure is the first duty of a journalist. For example, his social media site is hacked and some wrong message is not sent to the public. Therefore, Mr. Pradhan informed that it is absolutely necessary to be aware of the journalistic awareness along with the news broadcast.
