Fact Check: Rumours on Sakshi’s acquisition of TV9 are false

TV 9 is one of the leading mediahouse in Telugu, with its network spread in other languages too. For the past few days, a message in Telugu is in circulation with the claim that TV9 is being taken over by the management of Sakshi TV, which is a Telugu-based news channel and its managing director is Nemani Bhaskar, who is also an advisor to YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the present Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

The text in Telugu goes as

The mask that was put on TV9 all these years has been removed. As alleged by the political leaders, it turned out to be Sakshi-2. Sakshi Group took over the management responsibilities of TV9 on Monday afternoon. It is reliable information that Nemani Bhaskar, who was the managing editor of Sakshi and got the post of AP government advisor too, will now look after the responsibilities of TV9. Even though Rajinikanth was the managing editor of TV9 all these years, Sakshi used to watch all the operations from behind the scenes. There is a campaign that Sakshi will directly take care of the responsibilities of TV9 from now onwards. For the sake of Jagan, TV9 has sunk into the abyss and even damaged its credibility. All the false propaganda being spread by Jagan gang around TV9 is now hurting My Home Rameswara Rao. Jagan’s benami Krishna Reddy bought TV9. In order to avoid trouble from Ravi Prakash in Telangana, My Home Rameswara Rao was kept as the front face.

Till now, Rameswara Rao used to be comfortable with his realty business, using Jeeyar Swamy as his shield. All the misdeeds done by TV9 for the sake of Jagan were being attributed to My Home Rameswara Rao. Finally, he said that he and his family cannot bear the burden of Jagan’s sins. With elections getting completed, Jagan and Co. felt there was no need of the mask and hence, came out into the open and took ownership of TV9.

First, they inducted Nemani Bhaskar into the organization. Rajinikanth was close to Ravi Prakash and deceived him. There is no guarantee that he will not cheat Jagan tomorrow. Hence, they are showing him the door by projecting Nemani Bhaskar in the front. There is buzz that after the acquisition of TV9, NTV and 10TV, which were also bought by Jagan through benamis, will also be merged with Sakshi. Jagan Reddy thinks that to fight the Congress government in Telangana, and also face the tripartite coalition, if it forms the government in AP, he needs to own a huge mediahouse as it would help him withstand the attack. In this direction, it is being analyzed that Jagan is bringing TV9, 10TV and NTV also into the fold of Sakshi network.”

Fact check:

The claim is False. TV9 management refuted all the claims.

When we searched for the reports on the acquisition of TV9 by Sakshi Media Group, we did not find any such reports. As both the media houses are leading media groups in both the Telugu states, the acquisition would be a big news and every news channel or website will report it, but we found no reports.

Upon further research, we found a post on TV9 X (twitter) account refuting the claims.

Taking to social media, TV9 stated that the rumours of its takeover were baseless and mala fide. It also stated that TV9 Network, India's largest news network, represents a phenomenal growth story in recent times.

TV9 Network has set many new industry benchmarks outshining many national legacy players. The stupendous performance has been achieved across broadcast and digital domains. Run professionally, the Network boasts of some of the best and most innovative editorial, product, and marketing initiatives. TV9 Network is poised for the next big leap, including marking a global foray, to give the Indian growth story the platform it deserves.

Based on this social media post, several local websites published reports stating that TV9 rubbished the claims of the takeover.

The reports stated that in a long post, TV9 said it has huge plans and is all set for global foray. TV9 said it is a professionally run media organisation with some of the “best and most innovative editorial, product, and marketing initiative”.

With TV9’s clarification, let’s hope that speculations and rumours will end. Meanwhile, all eyes are on June 4, when the 2024 election results would be declared. AP elections and Telangana’s Lok Sabha elections results are awaited.
