Fact Check: Viral image does not show Kejriwal supporters protest in New Delhi

The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on the allegations of corruption in March 2024. Kejriwal government was accused of receiving bribes for allotting liquor licenses to some private companies. However, Kejriwal and his supporters deny the charges stating that the multi-crore Delhi liquor case is a fabricated one. Thousands of supporters rallied in Delhi in protest against his arrest.
In such a situation, an image showing thousands of people clad in yellow shirts is going viral with the claim that the streets of Delhi were filled with the protestors.

Fact check:
The claim is False. The viral image is an old one and not from India.
When searched using Google reverse image search, we found that the image was published on several reports of the Great Ethiopian Run.
A report published by radseason.com titled ‘Great Ethiopian Run: The Biggest Race In Africa’ also shared the image. The article states that the Ethiopian Run is located in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. It is one of the most famous running events in Africa with more than 40,000 people participating in the event.
Taking this as a cue, when we searched using the keywords “Great Ethiopian Run”, we found an article published by CNN in August 2017. The title of the article is ‘Ethiopia is the hot new place in Africa – here’s why”.
Another website named MDG fund.org, shared the viral image with the title ‘Haile Gebreselassie kicks off the Great Ethiopian Run under the slogan “We can end the poverty by 2015”

Hence, the viral image does not show the rally conducted by Kejriwal protestors in Delhi. The claim is False.
