Suresh Gopi, a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, won the 2024 elections from Thrissur with a significant margin of 75,000 votes. Gopi’s victory is a personal achievement for the actor-turned-politician after being defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly elections.

He took oath as a Union Minister along with others on Sunday, June 9, 2024. After this, a message claiming that Suresh Gopi wants to resign from the Ministry, right after his swearing-in ceremony, is in circulation.

The post in Hindi goes as: “गजब मजाक बना रखा है. कल BJP सांसद सुरेश गोपी ने मंत्री पद की शपथ ली. अब पद छोड़ने की बात कह रहे हैं.”. When translated, it claims that “What an amazing joke this is. Yesterday BJP MP Suresh Gopi took oath as a minister. Now he is talking about resigning from the post.”

Fact check:

The claim is False. Suresh Gopi himself denied the claim.

When we searched to find more information on these claims, we found a post on his social media account stating “A few media platforms are spreading the incorrect news that I am going to resign from the Council of Ministers of the Modi Government. This is grossly incorrect. Under the leadership of PM @narendramodiJi we are committed to the development and prosperity of Kerala.”

According to India Today’s report, Suresh Gopi issued a clarification after the allocation of the portfolio stating that misconceptions are being spread by a certain section of the media.

Hindustan Times report states that Kerala BJP president K Surendran dismissed the reports as ‘fake news’. Speaking to the media in New Delhi, K Surendran mocked the Kerala media and said a section of journalists was spreading fake news against the BJP state unit.

Hence, the claim that Kerala MP Suresh Gopi, who was sworn in as a Union minister of state in the BJP government wants to resign from the ministry is False. He refuted the claims.
