Following the installation of 30 speed radar guns across Chennai city, several social media users now claim that the Greater Chennai traffic police has attached a screen to the traffic signal that would display the faces of those violating traffic rules.

A Twitter user sharing the video wrote, “If you break the traffic rule in Chennai your face will be projected with the fine. Name and shame for breaking traffic rules in Chennai,India.”

While, another user on Twitter said, “Violation of traffic rules in Chennai is displayed publicly. Violators will feel ashamed to see their erring act.”

A website called “Curly Tales” also wrote an article in support of the claim. It reads, “ Instead of deploying a person, they started using cameras and speed sensors to track vehicle movement. This way, they catch the offenders along with a video as proof. Moreover, the face of these offenders will be displayed on the big screen along with fine amounts and car details.”

FACT CHECK:

We performed a reverse image search and found the same video posted earlier this month on Twitter. However, the caption mentioned that the video is a Computer-generated image (CGI) concept. At the bottom of the Instagram account “Riggedindian” was mentioned as well.

Taking this as a hint, we searched on Instagram and found the same video posted on “Riggedindian” account. The video’s description clearly states that it is a CGI concept video. “This video is a concept video. Signal tracker in Chennai to avoid traffic rules violations. This is a cgi concept video.”

The account features several similar videos, for example, it recently posted a video of hot air balloons floating in the sky near the Marina Beach However, here too it mentions it was created using CGI.

Another CGI video shows windmills installed at the Marina Beach for more efficient power supply.

Thus, it is clear that a CGI video was falsely shared on social media to claim that faces of traffic rule violators will be displayed on screen at the signal.
