A video of the Indian Prime Minister cheering a crowd during a speech and urging them to raise slogan ‘Vote for India’ is going viral with the claim that he is urging people to vote for the alliance formed by the opposition parties in the country.

Several opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, etc., have joined hands to form an alliance for the 2024 general elections. The alliance is named as Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance, shortly called I.N.D.I.A.

The video of PM Modi calling upon the public to raise their voice in favour of India is shared with the caption: “Vote for India. Vote for India. Modi ji is saying to vote for India, lest the party gets angry with Modi ji. @RoflGandhi_@rohini_sgh @sakshijoshii

In the video, we can see that the speaker urging the crowd to raise the slogan ‘Vote for India’ after every statement.

Fact Check :

The claim is false. The video is an old one.

When we observed the video carefully, we could see it was a news clip telecast in Aaj Tak with the title ‘Modi Ki Mahagarjana Rally’ displayed on the top. After 7 seconds, the name displayed stated ‘Narendra Modi, Mukhyamantri, Gujarat’ in Hindi which means ‘Narendra Modi, Chief Minister, Gujarat’.

Taking this as a cue, when we searched with keywords ‘Mahagarjana Rally + Modi Chief Minister, Gujarat’, we found an article published on a website named narendramodi.in. The full length video of his entire speech and the transcript of the speech were published on December 22, 2013 with the title “Full Speech: Shri Narendra Modi addressing Maha Garjana Rally in Mumbai”. The viral part can be seen from 50.03 minutes in the video where Modi is seen urging people to shout the slogan ‘Vote for India’.

The transcript published read: “Country is larger than the party, so we want to give a mantra, want to make the voice raised from Mumbai reach out to India, that in 2014 elections, do not vote for parties, but for the nation..! Vote for India..! Friends, I will speak and then you say after me - Vote for India..!
