Fact Check: Viral images of 80-yr-old woman with crochet cats is AI-generated

Viral images do not show the crochet work of an 80-year-old woman. The huge crochet cats and the old lady are part of AI-generated images.

Fact Check:
The claim is False. The images are AI-generated; the crochet cats are not real.
When we observed the images carefully, we found that the faces of the women in the images are not the same, each image showed a different woman along with the crochet cat. We could also spot abnormalities on the body parts of the women, like hands, toe fingers, eyes, etc.
When we searched the images using reverse image search, we found an Instagram account named ai.artandcat that shared these images first on July 3, 2023.
This Instagram account is linked to a facebook page named “Lydia’s AI art and Cats”. The name on the Facebook page is mentioned as Lydia Masterova.
The Instagram account had been sharing several creative images of cats generated using AI technology. A few images showing elderly women on crochet bikes are also shared here.
There is a series of images of elderly women with crochet cars with the caption “Grandmas proudly show their crochet cars! Guess the cars! There are four models here”
When we checked the image by using AI detection tool AI or not, we found out that the image has been generated using AI.
The images were also debunked by the fact-check organization named Snopes.
Therefore, the images of elderly women sitting next to huge crochet cats are AI-generated. The claim that the images show an 80-year-old woman with the crochet product is False.
